We Have A Winner!!!

Bo has just earned himself $75 for identifying Olympia, Greece.

We visited there on our cruise of the eastern Mediterranean in October of 2000. Our ship docked at Katakolon a small seaside village on the western coast of the Peloponnese, Greece's largest peninsula. It is the gateway to one of ancient Greece's most notable historic landmarks, ancient Olympia. The first Olympiad took place there in 776 B.C. and continued until AD 393. That's 1,169 years. The Games were symbolic of the unity of all the Greek states and inspired the "Olympic Truce," a time period when if, during the games a war was taking place, all hostilities were temporarily suspended. Along with the games the site was the chief center of religious worship. There were temples to many Greek gods, the most celebrated was the Olympieum, which is dedicated to Zeus. Grandpa is sitting on part of ruins of this temple which holds the Olympic flame (which, by the way, is still lit every four years before the modern Olympic Games).

Okay, just a little help here. This won't cost you anything, because it's apparent you all need some coaching in riddle solving. You need to examine the clue very carefully for key words or phrases. For instance the 6th word in the clue is very significant. Also, look at words and descriptive phrases through new lenses. What might "religious, political and social" mean in another culture or time? Religious doesn't always mean "christian" or "jewish" (or even Islamic). Keep thinking - and researching. You might find some places for your next trip!!!

LET THE GAME BEGIN - FINALLY. Here are the rules: Anyone who wants to pose a challenge will post a picture - the picture must have a person in it, in an identifiable location. The value of the challenge will be determined by the difficulty of the locale identification. For instance, the picture I am posting today is of Grandpa somewhere in the world. The identification is worth $100 today. Whoever first identifies Grandpa's location will receive $100.00. If no one can solve the challenge, after 24 hours you will have an opportunity to request a clue. I will provide 3 clues, which will cost you a certain amount depending upon the value I feel they are worth. For this picture clue #1 will cost you $10, clue #2 will cost you $15 and clue #3 will cost $25. If you solve it after clue #1 you will receive $90. However, if you use all 3 clues you will only receive $50. Confused yet???? Good. Here goes:

Another Game to Came!

After receiving some great suggestions and tips for discount travel and lodging, as well as recommendation of places to stay and visit, the Euro crew would like to open up a dialog with any who would be willing to participate.

Many of you have been to Europe yourselves, some of you several times. We would like to know from you: Where would you recommend for us to visit? Where should we stay? We have given you what we are most looking forward to doing, now will you tell us what you would most like to see us do?
